Africa East & South - Nairobi to Victoria Falls Africa East & South
This is a combination trip made up of 2 separate sections. Click on the section links below to view more information on each section.Section 1: East African Overland & Zanzibar Section 2: Zanzibar & Zambezi ZigzagDisplay All SectionsSection 1 A very comprehensive journey of discovery. Community projects and hands on involvement. Extensive wildlife experiences with plenty of time for beach relaxation and loads of adventure stuff. Moderately paced journey. See the side of Africa most other companies miss out. Down here in East Africa, life is always laid back, loads of stuff to see and do and a"bove all people to meet. Responsible tourism is the new adventure travel buzzword, but on this overland adventure we really practice what we preach (actually we try not to preach). Dragoman Overland has a very close tie in with the Kariandusi School Trust, a small grassroots charity that builds schools in the Rift Valley in Kenya. We will camp overnight at one or other of the schools that KST are busy building and spend the day helping in the building and decorating projects. Then there's the Masai Boma community village, which we visit by camel. But most people do come to this region for an Africa safari and our Kenya safari will be in Nakuru National Park. However, African wildlife is at its most prolific on the plains of the Serengeti. Forget your average Tanzania safari, Dragoman travel overland through the Serengeti, sleeping two nights in the park surrounded by animals, travelling the length of the plains, allowing time to really explore (and even take a balloon safari) and then a third night camped in the Ngorongoro Crater Reserve. This is an adventure holiday and we will allow you the time to experience the region. That's why we take 16 nights to do this overland travel adventure, rather than 12 nights, which is the usual length of most overland adventures from Nairobi to Dar. It stands to reason, less driving, less rushing, more wildlife, more relaxation and more contact with the local communities. Back to the laid back bit, we then spend two nights at Kipepeo Beach village near Dar, laying on the white sands watching the camels, cows and goats being herded along the shore. Don't leave your towel on the beach, goats eat towels. Then four days in Zanzibar, 'it don't get better than that'; it will be tough going home. Section 2 Comprehensive journey with off the beaten track inclusions. Wildcamps and wilderness canoe expedition, road conditions variable, some dirt roads. Plenty of R&R time and beaches. Excellent off beat wildlife experiences. What a way to start an adventure holiday; 3 days relaxing on the Island of Zanzibar, the gem of Tanzania tourism; unspoilt beaches, the back streets of Stonetown, dolphins and spices and a really interesting culture (check out the food stalls at the evening market in the harbour). You would think this was hard to beat; your wrong, next stop paradise, alias 4 nights on Lake Malawi. But no visit to Africa would be complete without an Africa safari and Zambia's South Luangwa Nat Park and Lower Zambezi region are a great adventure in wildlife viewing. In both places we can get out of our vehicles and see the wildlife alfresco. For this is real adventure travel and this is one of our Discover style overland trips and we will take you way off the beaten track. While others hoon down the tarmac road, you will spend 3 nights on a boat safari, canoeing down the Kafue and Zambezi Rivers, surrounded by wildlife. Hey, you have no idea how big an elephant really is until you have seen him 20 metres away sitting in a kayak in the Zambezi; this certainly beats your average Tanzania safari. That's the beauty of overland travel, we get you to places others miss; this is not your everyday journey. Yes, that's right it is an adventure holiday and in keeping with our ideals of responsible travel, we ensure that we do have community projects in the trip. Local community contact is found throughout the trip, in Zanzibar, in Malawi and through our visit to the Kawasa village project in Zambia.
